On May 11, 2019, the Youth Group of the High Voltage Specialty Committee of China Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE) was successfully held in North China Electric Power University. The conference was sponsored by the High Voltage Specialty Committee of CSEE, and co-sponsored by the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering of North China Electric Power University and the State Key Laboratory of Alternate Electrical System with Renewable Energy Source (NCEPU). Academician Chen Weijiang, Chairman of the High Voltage Specialty Commission; Professor Lu Fangcheng, Vice President of North China Electric Power University; Professor Li Chengrong, Member of the High Voltage Specialty Commission; Professor Li Peng, Secretary-General; Professor Sun Lin, Deputy Secretary-General, and 137 members from 78 institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutes attended the conference.
Professor Lu Fangcheng, Vice President of North China Electric Power University, delivered a welcoming speech, expressing his congratulations on the establishment of the conference and his warm welcome to young scholars. Professor Li Chengrong encouraged young scholars to aim at needs, seek truth from facts, build confidence and shoulder heavy burdens bravely. Academician Chen Weijiang, as the initiator of the Youth Group of the High Voltage Specialty Committee, made keynote speeches on three aspects: the purpose of the establishment of the group, what to do and how to do. Combining with the spirit of the Congress to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement, Academician Chen Weijiang emphasized that youth is hope. If youth is prosperous, the country will be prosperous; if youth is strong, the country will be strong. Promoting youth development is of vital importance to the country. Young people have the most innovative spirit and activities, dare to pursue their dreams, dare to realize their dreams, and fully stimulate the vitality of young people. The starting point of establishing the Youth Group is to set up a platform to help pupils or scholars of younger age. Academician Chen Weijiang hopes that young scientists and technicians will never forget their original intention of pursuing truth and exploring the unknown, and keep the mission of climbing the peak bravely and serving the country through science and technology in mind. It is hoped that the Youth Group will achieve academic democracy and full autonomy, activate academic exchanges, share research results, and create a harmonious innovative ecological environment in the field of high voltage specialty rely on the platform of the Group. At last, Chen Weijiang encouraged young researchers to aim high, to work hard, to unite and cooperate with each other, to inject new vigor into the development of high voltage cause of our motherland, and to contribute wisdom and strength to the development of science and technology of our country.
At the meeting, 15 members of the Youth Group participated in the democratic election for group leader. Professor Liu Yunpeng (NCEPU) was elected as the first group leader by secret ballot. Professor Yu Zhanqing (Tsinghua University), Professor Liu Wenfeng (Xi'an Jiaotong University) and Professor Li Hua (Huazhong University of Science and Technology) served as vice-group leaders respectively. On behalf of the newly elected group leader, Professor Liu Yunpeng thanked the participants and expressed his confidence in promoting the steady development of the Youth Group. Under the organization of the group leader Professor Liu Yunpeng, all the members of the group warmly discussed the group's constitution and the next specific work, and visited State Key Laboratory of Alternate Electrical System with Renewable Energy Source of North China Electric Power University.
It is the first Youth Group of the High Voltage Specialty Committee of CSEE. The establishment of the group aims to provide an active communication platform for young researchers in the field of high voltage and insulation technology in China, to promote the growth of young scientists and technicians, and to create new vitality for the development of high voltage disciplines.
